Collection: Masked Emotions

Original artwork from my 1st solo art show in Atlanta, GA entitled “Personal Best: A Journey of Wins, Losses, and Lessons

All of these masks represent emotions that we put on or try to hide as people. I love that masks can come in various shapes, sizes, and colors, correlating to the interests of the people wearing them. There are many different types of people and personalities in this world, so no 2 masks will ever look the same, and regardless of the emotion, the mask will always look different depending on who is wearing it and why they put it on. 

I arranged these masks on the canvas from light (positive) to dark (negative) because I wanted to elevate joy and happiness above depression and anger.  My daily thoughts are overwhelmingly positive, so I want viewers’ eyes to be drawn to those emotions first. Especially those who can’t see any light in their world from day to day. I decided to do prints of each emotion individually, so that those that connect with one mask over another can purchase that mask print on its own.

Throughout my journey I’ve had to to put on, hide, and/or adjust all these masks (and other ones) for myself at one point or another, but my understanding of these masks, and the emotions behind them, have played a huge part in bringing me to my ‘Personal Best’.
